Even though this is not the first laptop I used, Compaq Presario C793TU is the first laptop paid using my pocket money. It came under a credit card promotion from Citibank and was cheaper than market price for about RM400. Currently I have a company notebook (HP Compaq 6910p) which is technically better than C793TU but is monitored by corporate IT, which is a no-no for private stuff. C793TU comes with no OS and I installed Linux Fedora 9 on it. Currently this notebook is running 24×7 as a BitTorrent “server”. As a result, I purchased a nice-looking notebook cooler for it. It is made of aluminium and theoritically is able to transfer heat better than plastic-made cooler. I will write a topic on how to setup Fedora 9 on C793TU if got time. The following is the specification of C793TU

  • Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2390 (1.88 GHz)
  • Webcam
  • 120GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive
  • 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM (1 Dimm)
  • Super Multi 8x DVDRW with Double-Layer Support
  • FreeDOS
  • 15.4″ Diagonal WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display
  • 802.11b/g WLAN
  • 5-in-1 Digital Media Reader
  • 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
