Two weeks ago, history had been made by my Toyota Corolla SEG 1.6 which is 16 years old. No, it is not exploding or dismentle itselft in the middle of the road, but it reaches 300,000 km mileage. From year to year, many components had been changed. To name a few: clutch paddle, tie rod end, power steering, radiator, radiator fan motor, air conditional piping, power window motor, absorber, engine compartment oil sealants, water pump, exhaust pipe, etc. Now, the car starts having knocking sounds at left side when driving slowly so I am suspecting is due to tie rod end again. Sigh.
Anyway, it is a good car considering running for 16 years with 300,000 km mileage. Other local made cars with the same age + mileage are most probably in chop shop now. I have no objection if it suddenly prefer to retire in the middle of the road. In fact, older cars are better in quality in my opinion. The engine looks more solid. For me, newer cars have more “plastic” feel regardless at interior or engine compartments.
With 300,000 km, you can:
Fly from Penang, Malaysia to Beijing, China two-way for 58 times.
Fly from Penang, Malaysia to New York, USA two-way for 16 times.
Circle the earth at equator 7 times (one circle = 40, 075.16 km)
300,000 km/s is the light speed.
