It is common that Indonesians come to Malaysia to hunt for jobs, so does Malaysians go to Singapore. An interesting article found last Tuesday (14 Oct 2008) on losing jobs in Singapore for Malaysians due to recent financial crisis. Here are some highlights in the article:

  • 300,000 Malaysians will lost job.
  • Malaysians accounted for 30% of foreign workforce in Singapore.
  • Singapore will be the first Asian country to fall into a technical recession.

When asked for contigency plan for Malaysian in Singapore, the HR Minister suggested that Malaysians to take up the vacancies presently handled by foreign workers in Malaysia (or in other words: contruction work, maid, operators, cleaners, etc).

My question is: Are they willing to come back here after being paid handsomely in Singapore for years?
