Hello,
One of my problem on blogging is that after taking so many food photos, there is no time to publish them. Either is due to heavy workload, or just simply lazy
Anyway, today I bring you all to visit a Taiwanese mother – Mommy Wang, which my last visit on her is in February 2009.
Mommy Wang is actually a Taiwanese restaurant. I like to try the crispy chicken (香鸡排) whenever I visit a Taiwanese restaurant. Even though Mommy Wang’s one is RM1.00 cheaper (RM5.00), I still feel that the Shihlin one is better as the chicken is more tender.
The restaurant provides various kind of lunch set. The lunch set usually comes with 3 kind of vegetables, which usually consist of spicy, salty, and mild types. It serves with rice. One of their signature dishes is Yong Koi Fei Chicken Rice (RM5.80). The chicken tastes good. The Lemon Grass Chicken Rice (RM5.80) is similar to crispy chicken but I somehow prefer this Lemon Grass version.
Taiwaneses like to follow Japanese trend. Perhaps that’s the reason why I was recommended with Unagi Rice (RM11.00) here. Tastes like Japanese but beware of little bones in the eel.
One thing to note is that the shop provides you with free flow of soup of the day (self service). So make sure you take a lot.
You can also add RM0.50 for the pearls (sago) on your drink. They are big and nice to suck… woohoo.
There are also some nice side orders. One of them is Sweet Potato with Plum (Small RM3.00). They look like potato wedges in KFC but this one tastes sweet. There are some pao (buns) with funny names, such as “Tiger eats pig” bun (虎咬猪) (RM3.00)
It tastes like my favourite Fat Meat Pao (南乳包) as seen in Dim Sum shops.
As a whole, Mommy Wang (Bayan Baru) provides a cozy place to enjoy Taiwanese food at a reasonable price. It may not as tasty as others, but sometime friendly services come first. Unfortunately the shop only opens from lunch til 5pm.
Other than the one in Bayan Baru, there are another shop and 3 stalls opened in Penang, namely:
Shop lot:
211 A-G, Lebuh Carnarvon, 10100 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 04-2613339
Stalls:
Restaurant Telok Bayan (金湾饮食中心), Bayan Baru
1288 Cafe 茶室, Paya Terubung
甜心饮食中心, Aston Road, Bukit Mertajam
The shop also provides delivery service. You can grab a copy of the menu from here.

Hi Not2Eat,
Ya, their drink basically not bad. Papaya milk shake is the one recommended by host when I first visit the restaurant. They like to recommend you to add some pearls (sago) in your drink.
