Fortunately Guang Ming Daily (光明日报) newspaper is giving away fragrant rice by showing them four cutting of its header (of specific date). So this morning I drove all the way to Jelutong Wet Market and redeemed the rice…

The newspaper did not mention the size but it was only 1kg… still… better than nothing….. Now, since when I became so “aunty”?

We all are consumers, regardless we are buying something or eating out. When shopping, sometimes we preferred one shopping mall than another. Why it is so? An expert came out with few factors affecting consumer’s decision in shopping:

Factors affecting consumer’s buying:

Price (e.g. sales. It can also be expensive stuff representing a person’s prestige)

Prestige

Practicality (e.g. easy parking system, ample parking space)

Packaging

Pleasant (e.g. basic infrastructure on the mall)

Psychological

About psychological, there are 2 types of people basically. One is they shop because they like to meet somebody, and say “hi” to them. They like to shop during weekend, or when a new mall is opened. Another type is another way around, which prefer not to be seen by a known person.

As a whole, here’s things that motivate people to shop:

Convenience

Coupon, Compare (e.g. get discount voucher, ask relatives/friends for opinions)

Crowd lovers (e.g. some prefer places with many people, but is not overcrowded)

Computer (e.g. shop/order from Internet)

These can be points to consider if you are planning to setup a retail business.

How was your Valentine day? I am single for my whole life so no harm having another one in this year. Many restaurants had Valentine set meal which usually more expensive than normal days. Read through some forums and found out that some couples had bad experience such as not being served nicely due to crowded environment. It makes me wonder why not celebrate it on 13th Feb or 15th Feb?

Last week there is no update in this blog. Was a busy week for me. Sigh…. Anyway, will start posting some food blogs tonight.

It had been an eventful year of 2008. First of all, it was this website that keep me busy in 2nd half of the year. However, I felt it is worth the effort and is motivating thanks to all of you who visited my site often. Hope my food review will help in deciding where to eat today :D

When I started writing food blogs, I am wondering whether Penang is a good place to start with. However, an article (see above) has cleared my doubt. Take a look at the article above. Penang is ranked at 2nd out of 44 Most Desired South East Asia tourist destinations in New York Times Magazine (The 1st one is Beirut). All thanks to the delicious food in Penang. There are even Singaporeans who travel all the way to Penang just for food. Penang is a good place to start with my food journey.

Then, I have another URL which is easier to remember:

http://www.noweating.com

That is, “Now Eating“. It will be my food blogs. Wacofx is still valid and you can reach my website at either one of the addresses.

Finally, year 2009 has arrived. I had been away for few days for Chinese New Year holiday. Today I am back to work and wish you all Happy Ox Year. Will post some blogs these few days. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

The 7 inches digital photo frame comes with one power adapter and usual manual. It supports USB thumbdrive and memory cards (e.g. SD/MMC/MS). Fortunately it is able to support my 4GB SDHC card as well. To view the images, just plug your thumbdrive or memory cards to the slot. The photos can be played automatically with slideshow effects. This model has no background music. The image is not the sharpest but who care since most people view it from far.

7 Inches Digital Photo Frame In Action

Priced at USD$40 (RM140), this is by far the most luxury gift I ever received. Throughout my 5 years career life, I never received a single gift from local managers, even though both practiced US culture. Most companies simply have a so-called “appreciation lunch” with managers serving horror food purchased using company budget. No company sponsorship, no appreciation.

While many companies start reducing headcount, salary and working day, many employees start cutting expences. It makes me wonder whether this will prevent people from having nice lunch/dinner at restaurants.

An article in The Star shows that most restaurant chain stores, such as Manhattan Fish Market (MFM), Tony Roma’s and Kenny Rogers Roasters found out that the customers had increased this year. Kenny Rogers Roasters has 23% sales growth this year. One of the Chinese restaurants, however, suffered from the decrease in customers.

In my opinion, obviously restaurant businesses is good this year as headcount/salary reduction only become significant late of the year (November). Furthermore, most people also won’t hesitate in spending more on food in this festive season. Perhaps the restaurant owners will only see the effect of economic crisis after Chinese New Year next year.

I hope it won’t affect me in providing more reviews here.

Koi pond! That’s what I am talking about. The pond is nicely designed with lighting system at night. Unlike mine one which “run like hell” when seeing people pass by, the Kois swimming peacefully… but is kind of overfeeded.

Each year I heard of my colleagues (especially girls) travel around the world, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, or Singapore. What make them travel (other than cheap air ticket during MATTA fair)? Here are some finding by WOTIF.COM on Malaysian travellers:

Internet is the most popular place to search for travel information

< 60% don’t cut cost on accommodation

54% like to explore new destinations

Those with children tend to be less flexible and more likely return to the same location :(

96% are social travelers (travel with partner, friends, or family).

4% who travel alone prefer to do so due to ability to be independent and meet new people.

Surprisingly, I have a friend who falls under 4% who travel alone. She travels to Bangkok alone not once, but many times just to enjoy the scenaries there. Perhaps myself also fall under this 4% if I have the budget to travel…

Top 3 factors making Malaysians to travel are:

Stunning scenery (60%)

Being unspoilt or uncrowded (24%)

Great food

Penang is one of the most stylish local destinations.

Japan is No. 1 in the travel wish list by Malaysians. Hmm.. sushi

For girls, this article tells you how to spot a good/bad guy. Obviously I fall under “good guy” category. Hoho~

The bad

The quick escape artist. This man comes on like a hurricane. Then, six weeks later, he’s got a million excuses why he can’t see you anymore.
How to spot him: He gets a lot of phone calls from women, and dresses in a peculiar combination of styles. And he eats at odd hours.

The woman hater. He pursues you relentlessly and treats you fabulously. But after he wins you, everything that was right about you is suddenly wrong.
How to spot him: He charges his credit card to the limit. He owns several versions of the same item, doesn’t want to be a parent and may be estranged from his family.

The secret manipulator. He’s kind and makes a good impression on others, but somehow, things always go his way, never yours.
How to spot him: He likes children, but wants to control them and is very protective of family members. He isn’t style-conscious and is a do-it-yourselfer who keeps his cars a long time.

The intense (but crazy) man. This man is so magnetic, you would surrender your own life to him, but he does everything to extremes.
How to spot him: He seems exhausted much of the time, probably smokes and forgets to eat. He’s a secretive loner who doesn’t have much money and is often angry at family members.

The hustler. He’s after one thing and one thing only: Sex!
How to spot him: He’s a good dresser who’s physically fit, tries to stay young and often drives a sexy sports car. He lives in an apartment or condominium furnished with lots of mirrors and rarely mentions his family.

The good
The loving, traditional man. This man’s woman is just about the most important thing in his life. He wants a good home and family more than anything else.
How to recognise him: He dresses conservatively, has good manners and likes order. He chooses practical cars, is careful with money and relies on you to keep him healthy by preparing nutritious meals.

The loving, many-faceted man. He’s the man most women seem to want. He’s an equal pal and partner who has many interests.
How to recognise him: He thinks of himself as the greatest at whatever he does and has had several career changes, He considers his home a nest, spends money freely and wants to be a father. He enjoys people, but has few close friends.

The loving, limited partner. This man is very independent and needs a woman who is, too. He’s romantic and thoughtful. However, you’ll always be second to his work.
How to recognise him: He’s often quiet and thinks of himself as logical and rational. He dresses and grooms himself to perfection, takes good care of his car and lives in a very comfortable home. He may want no children, though, because they take up too much time.
