Other than Serdang in Kedah state, Kuala Sepetang near Taiping is another place for fried porridge and even better, it is covered with seafood fresh from fisherman boats stone’s throw away. We visited Kuala Sepetang Seafood Porridge 十八丁海鲜粥 restaurant and was blown away by the quantity and quality of the seafood.
Fried porridge 炒粥 – overnight porridge fried with salted pork belly, Chinese Chive, dried shredded squid, and soy sauce. The smallest size (RM9) serves 2-3 persons. You never know that plain porridge which usually taken when a person is sick can taste so good. It is no longer a stranger for Penangites but if you would like to try the original one, go to Serdang, Kedah, namely Fong Ting Siew 峰亭秀 restaurant.
Char Moey (Fried Porridge) – A dish hard to find in some areas, is now available in Tanjung Tokong . Unlike normal porridge, it is mildly fried to brown color with pork and the fragrant from wok. I was introduced by my friend to try it one day.
